Advance
A payment given to a model before an assignment begins, in order to secure his/her services.
Artistic Nudity
A type of nudity for photographs, which is revealing, yet meant to be tasteful rather than exotic or pornographic. It is used mostly for artistic photographs shown in galleries.
Audition
A meeting with a client, photographer, art director, or casting director for the purpose of evaluating a model for a job or assignment. Depending on the requirements of the job, an evaluation of particular skills or talents may be required.
Beauty Shot
Very similar to a head shot, in that it is a photo taken from the shoulders up that showcases a models face in close proximity. Beauty shots are generally more simplified than headshots, and involve less makeup, simple hair, and little jewelry.
Body Modeling
This type of modeling puts heavy emphasis on a model's figure. It can be nude or non-nude, yet is usually very revealing and meant to show off a model's body.
Book
A book is another term for a model's portfolio of photographs. Also, the verb, to book, means to hire a model.
Booker
The representative from a modeling agency who is in charge of promoting models. This includes securing modeling jobs and negotiating fees.
Booking Conditions
These are set by the agency and include the terms and conditions related to an assignment. This can include details such as payment, cancellation policy, and overtime rates.
Booking Out
The specific times or days a model is unavailable to work.
Boudoir
Modeling done in a bedroom setting, which usually involves lingerie or implied nudity.
Buy-Out
An agreement between a model and a client, in which the client pays a one-time fee for use of the model's work, rather than pay residuals.
